Becoming a mother is one of life’s most profound transitions, yet many mothers navigate pregnancy, birth and the postpartum period feeling overwhelmed, under-supported and unsure where to turn.
The Maternal Village SA exists to bridge the gap between medical care and everyday motherhood by connecting women with trusted information, qualified professionals and meaningful support.
We believe mothers deserve access to evidence-based resources that support not only their babies, but also their own physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.
Through expert-led conversations, educational resources and a carefully curated network of maternal health professionals, we aim to create a trusted space where mothers can feel informed, supported and less alone.
Our village brings together professionals across disciplines who support women through pregnancy, postpartum and early parenthood.
Because supporting mothers is essential to supporting families.
-
To empower mothers through accessible, evidence-based information and connection to qualified professionals who understand the physical, emotional and psychological journey of motherhood.
We are committed to:
Promoting evidence-based maternal wellbeing.
Making trusted support easier to find.
Creating conversations around the realities of motherhood.
Reducing isolation by building connection and community.
Recognising that mothers need care and support too.
-
To create a trusted maternal support ecosystem in South Africa where every mother can access the knowledge, connection and care she needs throughout her journey into and through motherhood.
The Story Behind it all
Meet Tarryn - Founder
The Maternal Village SA was born from a passion for supporting mothers through one of the biggest transitions of their lives.
I am an Occupational Therapist, Yoga+ Pilates Instructor and most importantly, a mother. I have always been drawn to the intersection between health, wellbeing, development and meaningful connection.
Through my professional experience, I have learned the importance of looking at the whole person; not just a diagnosis, symptom or stage of life. Through my own journey into motherhood, I have also experienced the profound physical, emotional and identity shifts that come with becoming a mother.
Like many women, I navigated the transition into motherhood while discovering a new sense of self, learning to ask for support and finding my way through the many changes that accompany this chapter of life. Through motherhood, and more recently through the loss of a pregnancy, I experienced firsthand the importance of having a community that can support and hold mothers through both the expected and unexpected moments of their journey.
The Maternal Village SA was created from the belief that mothers deserve a village… not only when things are going well, but also during the challenging, uncertain and vulnerable seasons. This platform brings together my passion for maternal wellbeing, evidence-based practice and creating spaces where mothers feel informed, supported and less alone.
Because every mother deserves a village.
